80km/50miles, option to finish ride at 35km apple pie stop, food included this year!
Ian has redesigned the route this year, which still maintains a figure eight format with two "loops." Overall, the route includes just over 5000 feet of climbing, with the steepest climb being around a 11% grade. The route features one class IV road well-known in the area; some of you asked about Rake Factory last year.
The first loop of the course makes its way south out of Peacham on a paved road before quickly connecting to the network of beautiful dirt roads that weave amidst working farms and open hillsides. The route continues south on the historic Bayley-Hazen Road to Ryegate, which is the southernmost point of the route. From here, you will turn left and left again before heading north and beginning a series of climbs and views overlooking the Connecticut River and New Hampshire. Winding your way northwest back to Peacham, be sure to take in the views while working up an appetite for homemade apple pie compliments of the Peacham Library!
Following the midway stop at the library, you will enjoy a fast downhill and flat road...to digest. The climbing continues on the second loop as riders will weave their way to Barnet Center and climb over the pavement to Joe's Brook Road. There is a fast paved descent off Barnet Center Road so please use caution. Once at Joe's Brook, you will have another short section of flat road before tackling Rake Factory, which is an unmaintained yet rideable road. From the here, the route connects to Varnum and then Thaddeus Stevens, and those who rode last year will remember this section. The final rest stop will be at SiloSide, the Boswell barn featuring some surprises! Snaking along Joe's Brook, riders will pass Keiser Pond before joining Keiser Pond Road and taking a variation of the roads on last years course to return to Peacham.
It will be a challenging course, but take your time, take in the views and be sure to stop at the rest points to fuel up and refresh!
